Final Planting

Put a layer of soil in the bottom over the rocks. Hold the tree in trhe pot slightly lower than the final position and begin adding the soil. Occasionally jar the pot and use a stick to be sure the soil filters throughout the roots. Also use a stick near the tree base to push soil immediatley under the tree. Finally, I gently pull up on the tree while tapping the pot on a hard surface to settle the soil into the roots and set it at the correct height in the pot. I usually try to leave about 1/2 inch lip from the pot top to the soil level so the soil does not wash out over the top.
